Mark Keathley - Artist
The world of art is an interesting contradiction. Anyone can be an artist and many are out of personal fulfillment. However, few break that elusive barrier that elevates their trade from hobby or recreation to the pseudo rock star status as a known artist with an established fan base. The formula for such is an unpredictable mix of talent, timing and promotion. One such artist that is just now making that transition is Texas artist, Mark Keathley. Painting since the age of eleven, Keathley has dedicated his life to the pursuit of capturing the perfect moment and it shows now more than ever in his current body of work. Such passions make for good images but one also has to make the jump from painting as a hobby to the somewhat risky leap of selling your art for a living. This transition came to pass when Mark was in college and he attended a friend's art show who was also selling his works. From that point on, he worked 14 hour days, six days a week to accomplish his goal of making the crossover. Pretty soon, Mark started to notice that people were collecting his paintings as well as telling others about him. With an earthy personality and a keen sense of humor, fans of his artwork felt that his cause was one that they could not only support but also promote as though they would a friend. He then began taking his pieces to shows and managed to grab accolades and awards that reinforced what art enthusiasts had been telling him for a while. His art was collectible because it was actually good. With a realistic style and accurate portrayal of scale, the quality accentuated the moments that he managed to capture. Nowadays, Keathley has veered into the world of limited edition prints which allows his favorite paintings to be found on more than just one wall. Not content to rely upon the success of a handful of fan favorites, Mark continues to devote long hours in the pursuit of the perfect moment.
